오늘 언덕에 올라 아래를 내려 보았다
시냇물과 그 삐꺽대는 낡은 물레방아
기나긴 옛적에 우리가 앉아 놀던 곳
데이지가 제일 먼저 피어나던 푸른 숲은
이제 이 언덕에서 사라졌지만
삐꺽대는 낡은 물레 방아는 아직 있단다
너와 내가 어렸던 그때처럼
이제 우린 나이 들어 회색 머리이고
삶의 굴곡도 이제 거의 끝나 가지만
그래도 내게는, 네가 그때 그대로 아름다워
너와 내가 어렸던 그때처럼
외로운 듯 아무 말 없는 도시가 들어섰단다
쾌활하고, 첨단의 젊은이들이
멋진 하얀, 벽돌 저택에 쉼터를 잡았지
새들이 놀던, 우리와 노래를 함께 부르던 그 자리에
새들 못지않게 우리도 즐겁게 노래 불렀지
너와 내가 어렸던 그때
이제 나이도 있어 쇠약하다 하는데
내 발길도 전보다 좀 느린 편이고
내 얼굴은 한참 쓰인 페이지이지
단지 시간 만이 만연필이었어
파도가 부딪쳐 하얀 거품을 뿌린 듯이
허연 머리에 노인이라 하지만
그래도 내게는, 네가 그때 그대로 아름다워
너와 내가 어렸던 그때처럼
